The shooter in a Coralville armed robbery case has been sentenced to at least ten years in prison.

Judge Ian Thornhill gave 25-year-old Soloman Marshall ten years in prison on a Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury Charge and five years on a charge of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon. Online records do not indicate if the charges will run concurrently or consecutively.

A 1st Degree Robbery charge was dropped.

Marshall and 20-year-old Artquon Kirksey are two of three men who went to a residence in the 500 block of 7th Avenue at approximately 1am on December 23rd, 2017 for what was described as “an arranged transaction”.

After the transaction was aborted, the victim got into his car to leave. That’s when Marshall allegedly walked up to the vehicle, pulled out a gun and fired at the man, hitting him in the arm and chest. The three men then fled the scene.

Kirksey and the third suspect, 22-year-old Markez Fox, were arrested the next month. Marshall fled Coralville for several months, but was arrested upon his return in April of 2018. All three were charged with 1st Degree Robbery and Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, charges which carry a maximum total of 30 years in prison upon conviction.

Fox reached a deal with prosecutors last January, pleading guilty to charges of 1st Degree Theft, Conspiracy to Commit a Forcible Felony and Assault While Participating in a Felony. He was sentenced to ten years in prison.

Kirksey was given a five-year suspended sentence on a Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury charge on Monday. He was also arraigned that day on charges of Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, 1st Degree Harassment and Driving While Suspended after he allegedly threatened a witness in the case by displaying a handgun on Boston Way last April.
