IC man formally charged with invasion of privacy after recording employee pumping breast milk

An Iowa City business owner has been formally charged with multiple invasion of privacy counts after a thorough investigation of his media devices.
A long-time female employee at Carlson Design Team on South Gilbert Street alerted police in December of 2018 that she had located a recording device in a room where she was allowed to pump breast milk while at work. Police executed a search warrant on the business and the residence of 67-year-old Robert Carlson of Penkridge Drive.
Electronic devices seized through the warrant was forensically examined for evidence, and they found a total of 22 videos that showed the employee actively pumping breast milk. The woman’s breasts were captured by the recording device.
The woman gave no consent to be recorded and had a reasonable expectation of privacy while having the room to herself to pump breast milk.
During an interview with authorities, Carlson allegedly said that he found the victim beautiful and wanted to see what was underneath the woman’s clothing.
Additional pornographic artifacts were reportedly discovered on the devices, specifically depicting women’s breasts.
Carlson was booked into the Johnson County Jail early Friday morning and charged with 22 counts of invasion of privacy. If convicted on the charges, Carlson faces a maximum sentence of 44 years in prison.
