A Crawford County woman is accused of reporting a made-up sexual assault to Coralville Police in an attempt to cover up a forgery scheme.

According to arrest records, 31-year-old Krystal Schooley of Kiron, Iowa called 9-1-1 just after 4am on June 29th to report being a victim of sexual assault at a residence on the 2600 block of 2nd Street. Schooley refused to provide her name.

Police later learned Schooley called in an attempt to distract them from her suspected criminal activity, and she later admitted she had never been assaulted.

Schooley allegedly attempted to pass an altered check at Veridian Credit Union inside the 1st Avenue Hy-Vee in Iowa City earlier in the month. Investigators say Schooley had stolen the check out of a mailbox and used Wite-Out to alter the recipient and subject lines. Veridian staff did not process the transaction due to the obvious fake and the fact that Schooley did not look like the woman on the ID she provided. The entire incident was caught on surveillance video.

Schooley was arrested last month on a number of drug charges. She now faces additional charges of Forgery and Making a False Report of an Indictable Offense to Law Enforcement. If convicted on the new charges, she faces a maximum of six years in prison.
