A local transient faces charges that she pepper prayed her boyfriend during a domestic disturbance.

According to Iowa City Police, 37-year-old Saroya Mally called to report a domestic dispute with her boyfriend at his Broadway Street apartment at 2:15pm on July 10th. The alleged victim told police that Mally had pepper sprayed him when he opened the door to the apartment. Mally denied using pepper spray until the can was located after she was taken into custody.

Mally told investigators she only pepper sprayed her boyfriend after he pushed her.

Pepper spray marks on the door of the apartment were consistent with the boyfriend’s statement. Both parties admitted to being in an intimate relationship, and that Mally, a transient, had been living at the boyfriend’s residence since July 5th. All her belongings were found inside the apartment.

Mally is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 30 days in jail.
