A transient faces a felony charge after he allegedly stole booze and cigarettes from another transient while the two were staying at a shelter for the chronically homeless.

48-year-old Brett Young is accused of entering the room of a resident at Cross Park Place without permission around 10:45 Tuesday morning. Young allegedly stole liquor, a new pack of cigarettes, approximately $3 in change and food items. He later admitted to taking the property, telling investigators he thought it was a room belonging to someone named “Shaner”. Young was staying with another Cross Park Place resident at the time of the theft.

Security video shows Young knocking on the victim’s door, entering the room three times, then taking the stolen items out during his final trip. The cigarettes were found in his left front pants pocket.

Young is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary and 3rd Degree Theft. He has multiple previous theft convictions.

If convicted on the latest charges, Young faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
