Two Illinois men have been arrested after an early morning assault in downtown Iowa City.

Iowa City Police say they observed 21-year-old Tyler Laux of Frankfort, Illinois fighting with another man in front of Panchero’s on the corner of Clinton and Washington Streets just before 1:15 Sunday morning. The two were separated, and the alleged victim told police he was just standing outside and had no idea why Laux began fighting with him.

Laux showed multiple signs of intoxication. He allegedly resisted as officers attempted to take him into custody. Laux was eventually pepper-sprayed and taken to the ground, causing one officer to injury his knee. he also allegedly gave officers a fake name and date of birth.

A few minutes later police noticed another man, 19-year-old Corey Graham of Crete, Illinois, allegedly assaulting a man on the ground in front of Panchero’s after the man had previously been assaulted. Officers attempted to remove Graham from the man, but he allegedly resisted and pushed them away. Graham then began walking away, again allegedly pushing a police officer. He was then captured after a brief foot chase.

Laux is charged with Disorderly Conduct, Interference with Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury, Public Intoxication and Providing False Information. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 15 months in prison.

Graham faces charges of Assault on Peace Officers and Others, Interference with Official Acts and Disorderly Conduct. He faces a maximum of 14 months behind bars, if convicted.
