An Iowa City man who allegedly assaulted his wife after she confronted him about purchasing narcotics has been taken into custody.
Arrest reports indicate that officers were called to the Bon Aire Mobile Home Lodge on Highway 6 East on report of a domestic abuse assault that occurred around midnight on August 18th.
The victim stated that she had seen massages on her husband’s cellphone indicating that he was trying to purchase illegal narcotics, namely cocaine. The husband, identified as 23 year-old Christian Garcia, began walking out of the residence and the woman began to follow him.
The victim says she confronted Garcia about the messages and his attempt to purchase narcotics, and he allegedly became very agitated and irate toward her. Garcia is accused of grabbing his wife by the hair and shaking her. He then allegedly slapped her in the face, causing bruising and reddening below her right eye. Some of the woman’s hair was ripped out during the incident.
A warrant was issued for Garcia’s arrest, and he was picked up Monday afternoon by the Linn County Sheriff’s Department. He’s charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year.
A no contact order was requested between the couple.
