A Cedar Rapids man faces charges that he tried to stop an ambulance transporting a patient, then assaulted a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy.

An Iowa County Ambulance driver on his way to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics called 9-1-1 just after 4:30 Saturday afternoon to report a subject tailgating him, then driving in front of him and brake checking him.

A deputy stopped the vehicle near the corner of Melrose Avenue and Sunset Street. The driver, 25-year-old Jackson Petz of Cherry Hill Road Northwest, was reportedly angry and demanded to know who was inside the ambulance. He then allegedly spit at the deputy.

Petz was arrested for Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. He allegedly kicked the back passenger door of the squad car, causing damage. He also allegedly fought with deputies once at the Johnson County Jail.

Petz now faces additional charges of 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over three years in prison.
