Fire damages IC home

Fire damaged a home on Iowa City’s southeast side Saturday night.

According to the Iowa City Fire Department, firefighters responded to a report of a kitchen fire at 2550 Nevada Avenue just before 8pm. The first fire unit arrived in approximately four minutes and reported flames showing in the kitchen area of the house.  Fire crews entered the structure and brought the fire under control within 16 minutes.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The fire caused damage to the first-floor kitchen area of the structure and smoke damage throughout.  Damage to the home is estimated to be $20,000.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the ICFD Fire Marshal.
