A transient has been arrested after being accused of damaging a hotel room she stayed in Thursday night.

According to police, 46-year-old Trina Thompson treated herself to a stay at the Hilton Garden Inn on South Clinton Street, booking a room in her name. Officers were dispatched to the hotel Friday morning around 8 on reports of her damaging her room.

Staff notified police that when staff went to clean the room, they discovered that the screen of her TV had been shattered and broken off the stand. Additionally, they found red dye all over the bathroom and found that she had smoked in the room against policy.

When they interviewed Thompson, she admitted that she dyed her hair in the bathroom but denied damaging the TV, instead blaming a “friend.” She also stated that she had no means to pay for the damage, estimated at approximately $800.

Thompson was placed under arrest and resisted officers as she was being handcuffed. She had to be physically escorted into their squad car. She faces 3rd degree criminal mischief, 5th degree theft, and interference with official acts charges. If convicted on all counts, Thompson faces over two years in prison.
