Fire damaged an Iowa City residence Thursday night.
Iowa City firefighters were called to a structure fire at 1630 East Court Street just after 8pm. The first ICFD unit arrived on scene four minutes after notification and reported smoke showing from the home. The lone occupant had safely evacuated the residence prior to the arrival of the fire department. The fire was brought under control within nine minutes of arrival. During a search of the residence, a cat was located by search crews and safely removed.
The residence sustained moderate smoke damage. The fire department estimates $5,000 in damage to the residence and its contents. The cause remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal.
