A Cedar Rapids man accused of stealing his girlfriend’s car in Coralville and kidnapping her child has been fined $100.

The fine comes after a plea deal with prosecutors. 33-year-old Justin Anderson of 18th Street Northwest had initially been charged with 3rd Degree Kidnapping and Operating a Vehicle Without Owners’ Consent…charges carrying total maximum sentence of 12 years in prison. But after a deal with prosecutors, those charges were pleaded down to Disorderly Conduct.

Coralville Police say that on the afternoon of March 5th Anderson took the keys to his girlfriend’s Dodge Journey without permission and used it to pick up the woman’s seven-year-old child from school. Anderson then refused to give the child back, and lied to police about his whereabouts.

Anderson entered a guilty plea last Friday in Johnson County court. He was fined $100 on Monday.
