Seven Johnson County businesses failed alcohol compliance checks conducted by the county sheriff’s office.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, underage buyers were sent into 26 Johnson County businesses on Monday in an attempt to purchase alcohol. Seven businesses failed the test by selling to the minors, including RJ’s Express, Sam’s Main Street Market and both Casey’s locations in Solon; Bobber’s on the Coralville Reservoir; Kum & Go in Tiffin; and the BP gas station in Lone Tree.

The employees who made the illegal sales are charged with providing alcohol to a person under the legal age as an employee of a licensed liquor/beer establishment. The charge is a simple misdemeanor with a fine of $740.00.
