A weekend post featuring a racist comment by a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority has led to the University of Iowa’s Panhellenic Council to release a statement.

The Instagram post Saturday, which showed members of the sorority all dressed in white, received a comment by a member that said “join the kkk” but then added “I mean the kkg.” Both comments were circulated around Instagram.

The Daily Iowan reports that the Beta Zeta Chapter of the sorority posted a statement encouraging members to demonstrate an understanding of diversity and inclusion values and said they are committed to working with the university to ensure members understand and uphold those values.

The Panhellenic Council says the comments don’t align with its values.

The student run paper reports that the UI Greek system is undergoing a process to draft a strategic plan that serves as a guideline for creating positive culture change in fraternity and sorority life.
