An Iowa City man has been arrested and charged with endangering his infant child while arguing with officers.

The incident occurred around 3am Tuesday in the 1300 block of Oakcrest Street, where police allege that 18-year-old Arthur Rogers left in the middle of a large physical altercation involving both his family members and police officers. That altercation involved reports of pushing and shoving both inside and outside the residence.

When Rogers left the area, he went to get his infant child, believed to be around one or two years of age, from a safe location. He then reportedly pushed his way up a stairwell with the child in hand.

Both family and police were at the top of the stairs, and Rogers allegedly held the child with one arm while he proceeded to argue with officers. They report that Rogers was clearly jarring the child while making several quick, jerking motions.

A Warrant was requested for Rogers’ arrest and he was booked into the Johnson County Jail Wednesday afternoon. He’s charged with child endangerment and interference with official acts. If convicted on both charges, Rogers could get a jail sentence of up to 25 months.

Earlier this week, 31-year-old Octavious Jones of Broadway Street was charged with interference with official acts and assault on persons in certain occupations in connection with the same incident. He could be sentenced to 13 months in jail if convicted.
