A convicted Iowa City robber is back behind bars after allegedly fleeing the scene of a drunk driving accident.

North Liberty Police say 24-year-old Cedric Johnson of River Street was involved in an accident near the corner of Penn Street and Penn Court just before 4:45 Thursday morning. Johnson allegedly fled the scene, but was stopped and arrested by police a short distance away. He’s charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Driving While Barred and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

Thursday’s arrest was a violation of Johnson’s probation. Johnson pleaded guilty last year to 3rd Degree Robbery and 3rd Degree Theft charges stemming from two separate incidents. He was initially arrested after stealing cash from a customer in line at Falbo’s Pizza on South Gilbert Street in May of 2017, sparking a melee during which he punched out the other person.

He also stole cash from a customer at the Kum & Go at Gilbert and Burlington streets a few weeks later.

Johnson has had other recent run-ins with the law, including another OWI arrest in front of Mayflower Hall last November during which he allegedly faked a medical issue in an attempt to avoid arrest.

He was arrested in October of 2017 after police say he posted a stolen camera and several stolen camera accessories on Facebook Marketplace. The total value of the stolen items was valued at more than $1,800.

Johnson also has several drug convictions over the last two years for possession of marijuana.
