An Iowa City man who allegedly shattered a windshield in an apartment parking garage wasn’t hard to find; he was a resident of the complex.

According to police, surveillance video at the scene shows 20-year-old Michael Formento of Iowa Avenue in the lower level parking garage of his residence at about 4am this past Friday.

Formento is seen getting onto the hood of another parked vehicle and repeatedly stomping on the windshield of the 2017 Honda Accord, shattering it and spreading pieces of glass all over the interior.

Video shows Formento in the building’s elevator as well at about the same time.  Police estimated the damage to the hood and windshield at around $1000.

A warrant was requested for his arrest, and Formento was booked into the Johnson County Jail around 12:30am Tuesday. He’s charged with 3rd degree Criminal Mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years if convicted.
