Iowa City firefighters responded to a Wednesday morning car and garage fire on the city’s northeast side.

According to an ICFD news release, crews were called to a structure fire at 82 Heron Circle just after 10:15am. A caller reported that a car was on fire inside of the attached garage. The first fire unit arrived within four minutes and reported fire and smoke coming from the garage of a two-story residence.

Fire crews entered the structure and brought the fire under control within ten minutes. A search of the house confirmed all occupants were already out upon the arrival of the fire department.

Seventeen fire personnel responded to the initial alarm. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The damage was contained to the garage area and one vehicle.  Total property damage is estimated to be $50,000.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the ICFD Fire Marshal.
