The Iowa City Fire Department battled an overnight fire at an apartment complex near downtown.
According to a release from the ICFD, they responded to a structure fire at 319 East Court Street at 1:05 Friday morning. The reporting party said that his bathroom was on fire in Apartment 46 at the complex. The first fire unit arrived within four minutes.
The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes. A search of the apartment complex confirmed that everyone had gotten out before fire trucks arrived.
No injuries were reported to firefighters or residents. Fire and water damage was contained to the apartment and the unit directly below. Total property damage is estimated at $50,000.
Cause of the fire is still being investigated by the fire marshal.
