A Cedar Rapids man who had multiple warrants for his arrest was apprehended Saturday afternoon.

23-year-old Kevin Mallette of E Avenue Northeast was observed walking into the Broadway Street Casey’s at about 4:45pm. The officer knew Mallette was wanted on multiple warrants and approached him as he opened the door to the store.

Mallette was grabbed immediately and placed under arrest, despite his multiple attempts to pull away from the officer.

Mallette reportedly had the strong smell of raw marijuana on him, and a search of his person located 12 individual packaged baggies of marijuana with an approximate weight of nearly 33 grams. He also had a large amount of cash of varying currencies in several pockets.

Mallette was charged with a controlled substance violation, a Class D felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years.

He was on probation after being resentenced for a previous revocation for a 3rd degree Theft charge in January 2017, second controlled substance violation in July 2016, and Domestic Abuse Assault while displaying a weapon, also in July 2016. He was ordered to Hope House on January 12th 2018 for a year, but had been missing since March of that year. If resentenced on those charges, he could have up to another five years added to his term.
