IC man found with loaded gun during OWI arrest

An Iowa City man was discovered with a loaded firearm when stopped for a traffic violation early Saturday.

According to police, 22-year-old Brandon Hundley of East Burlington Street was stopped around 3:15am near Burlington and Dodge streets in Iowa City. He was allegedly discovered with bloodshot watery eyes, impaired balance and slurred confused speech. He was also wearing bar bands and admitted to drinking.

Hundley reportedly smelled of consumed alcohol and showed signs of impairment on field testing. Subsequent chemical testing showed a PBT of .158 and a Datamaster of .133.

A firearm with a loaded magazine was discovered on Hundley’s person. Additionally, two other loaded magazines were found in his pocket.

He was charged with OWI first offense and Possession or Carrying of Dangerous Weapons while Intoxicated. If convicted on both charges, Hundley could be sentenced to up to two years in prison.
