An Iowa City man has been arrested and faces numerous drug charges after an incident in North Liberty last week.

Officers were called to the 700 block of North Front Street  November 11th just before 7pm to assist Archie’s Rent-A-Ride in recovering a vehicle. Upon arrival, police observed 41-year-old Charles Johnson and an unidentified co-defendant exiting the vehicle.

Once the business took possession of the vehicle, a sizeable amount of marijuana was reportedly located inside. Approximately 9.2 ounces of raw marijuana was then seized by authorities. Also inside the vehicle was a backpack that allegedly contained 4 ½ pills believed to be MDMA.

A search warrant was secured, and executed on the residence the two individuals were observed entering. Subsequently, an additional 3.1 ounces of raw marijuana was seized.

An arrest warrant was executed on Tuesday, and Johnson was charged with 2nd offense possession of a controlled substance, a tax stamp violation and a controlled substance violation. If convicted on all counts, Johnson could be sentenced to over six years in prison.
