Iowa City Police say a subject driving while on a revoked license was found with a pellet gun in his car early Friday morning.

34-year-old Timothy Kriz of the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street was pulled over for an inoperable taillight near the corner of North Dodge and Governor Streets just before 3am. Kriz said he did not have an ID on him, and allegedly claimed his name was “Brett T. Kriz” with a date of birth that would make him four years older than his actual age.

The driver’s license photo of Brett Kriz did not match Timothy Kriz. When officers went to ask Kriz more questions, he admitted to having a pellet gun in his back seat. A pellet gun that fires 6mm BBs was found directly behind the driver’s seat. Kriz claimed he’d recently purchased it from an unnamed seller.

A consent search of Kriz’s vehicle turned up his actual Iowa ID card. Kriz allegedly admitted to lying about his identity because he had warrants for his arrest and was unsure of his driving status. His driving status was found to be barred through 2021 for an Operating While Intoxicated conviction, and his driving privilege is suspended due to nonpayment of fines.

Kriz is charged with Driving While Revoked, Driving While Suspended, Providing False Identity Information, and Carrying Toy Guns or Slingshots. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 14 months behind bars.
