The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says an infant was dropped on his head during a domestic fight in Tiffin.

Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at an apartment on Moon Flower Avenue just before noon Saturday. An investigation determined that 44-year-old Etienne Citenga Mbenga had been arguing with his wife in the couple’s kitchen when he struck her multiple times while she was holding their six-month-old son. Citenga Mbenga’s wife dropped the baby as a result, and he landed head-first on the kitchen counter. The wife was able to put the baby in a chair, and the two continued fighting until the wife was able to escape to a bedroom.

Investigators say the couple’s seven-year-old daughter, four-year-old son and two-year-old son all witnessed the alleged assault.

The baby who was dropped on the table was checked out by paramedics who were dispatched to the scene. His condition has not been released.

Citenga Mbenga was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury and Child Endangerment. If convicted, he faces a maximum of three years in prison.
