An Iowa City man was arrested after an alleged assault and the stealing of medications from the victim.

Police say the incident occurred just after Midnight on Sunday at the Iowa Lodge, where 24-year-old Devontae King of North Clinton Street got into an argument with the victim over relationship issues and medications. The argument turned physical when King reportedly grabbed the woman and left a bruise on her arm.

King allegedly also threatened to kill the woman and children and said he wished they would die. He also took some of the woman’s medications and left the scene.

He was found in a bathroom nearby in possession of the drugs, which consisted of 10 Alprazolam tablets.

King has a history of drug possession, having been convicted twice in 2015 for controlled substance violations.

He was taken into custody and charged with assault causing bodily injury, three counts of 1st degree harassment, and third or subsequent possession of a controlled substance. If convicted on all charges, King could be sentenced to a maximum of twelve years in prison.
