An alleged wallet thief faces charges that he threatened his victim when he was confronted about the crime.

Iowa City Police say the victim confronted 32-year-old Zachary Blaszczyk of Amhurst Street at Chipotle in the Old Capitol Town Center just before 2pm Friday. Blaszczyk allegedly denied the theft, then began screaming at the man and aggressively walking at him. Surveillance video indicates the victim believed he was about to be assaulted and backpedaled, retreating to safety.

Blaszczyk left Chipotle after the victim called 9-1-1.

Blaszczyk was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2:45 Friday afternoon and charged with 3rd Degree Harassment and 5th Degree Theft. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 60 days in jail.
