Threatening another driver with a handgun while driving on Interstate 380 has led to a road rage arrest.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Jason Smithson of Ladora was driving southbound on I-380 from Highway 30 just after 12:15 Saturday afternoon when another driver began to tailgate him. Smithson told investigators he thought the other driver was driving recklessly. The driver eventually passed Smithson, then blocked him from passing a semi. Smithson eventually passed the other driver in the left lane, but the driver caught up to him again and pulled up beside him in the right lane near the Swisher exit. That’s when Smithson brandished the handgun.

The other driver told deputies that Smithson pointed the gun at him, and Smithson admitted to brandishing the gun. Smithson is charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, a Class D Felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.
