Coralville man arrested for domestic assault Christmas afternoon

A Coralville man was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting his live-in girlfriend.

Police say 25-year-old Lubambya Mulungula of Boston Way and the woman have a 9-month old child together. According to arrest reports, Mulungula hit the woman’s head several times with his fist while she was holding the child Wednesday afternoon at approximately 4:00.  The woman reportedly received a bruise near her right collarbone.

Mulungula had a warrant for his arrest since August 10th after failing to appear for arraignment for a driving while barred charge.

He was taken into custody and charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year. The driving while barred charge as a habitual offender is an aggravated misdemeanor carrying a prison sentence of up to two years.

Mullungula remains in the Johnson County Jail; a no contact order was requested between the two parties involved.
