Coralville Police have identified the victim who was killed Christmas night in a shooting on Boston Way.

30-year-old Gregory Jackson of Iowa City died of his injuries at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Jackson was one of four people shot just after 9:30 Wednesday night on the 900 block of Boston Way. The remaining three victims have non-life-threatening injuries.

Jackson was due in court next month for a case management conference on charges of Class B and Class D drug felonies. He was arrested on June 30th after he was identified as one of the suspects in a fight in downtown Iowa City near Gabe’s. Arrest reports indicate Jackson was detained while the investigation was being conducted, and he reportedly tried to give his fanny pack to someone. An officer stopped him, and when he tried to check out the fanny pack, Jackson allegedly tried running. Since there were multiple officers on scene, he didn’t get far and had to be carried to a patrol car. A search of the fanny pack found a variety of drugs, including marijuana, ecstasy, and what looked like to be baggies of powder cocaine, crack, and meth. He was looking at over 35 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Coralville Police say it appears all the involved parties knew each other and the shootings were not a random attack. No one is in custody at this time.

Shell casings and other evidence was recovered from the scene and the area is no longer restricted access.

This case remains under investigation.
