Allegedly smoking meth while driving on Interstate 80 has led to a Cedar Rapids man’s arrest.

Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to a driver swerving back and forth between all three lanes of traffic on I-80 westbound in Coralville just before 6:15 Friday night. Officers caught up with the vehicle on Highway 218 southbound just south of the I-80 interchange. A deputy observed the Dodge Ram cross the fog line multiple times, and a traffic stop was conducted.

Investigators say the driver, 43-year-old Bruce Wilcox of Wieneke Circle, had slurred speech and droopy eyelids, and showed multiple signs of impairment.

A search of Wilcox’s vehicle turned up a glass pipe containing a crystal-like substance on the passenger seat. Wilcox allegedly admitted the pipe was his and that it contained meth.

Wilcox is charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 25 months in prison.
