A violent Thanksgiving guest is back behind bars after allegedly skipping a hearing last week.

25-year-old Jasmine Cherry of South Governor Street was set to appear in Johnson County court on Friday. She failed to respond to pages throughout the courthouse, and a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5:45 that night, where she remained as of Sunday morning.

Cherry was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, 5th Degree Criminal Mischief and Interference With Official Acts after Iowa City Police responded to a disturbance at 2482 Lakeside Drive just after 12:15am on November 29th. An investigation determined that Cherry had arrived at the apartment around 2pm the previous day as an invited guest for a Thanksgiving Day celebration. After ten hours, Cherry allegedly became belligerent and started harassing one of the attendees. The apartment’s residents asked Cherry to leave, but she refused, instead allegedly striking one of the hosts in the face causing bleeding to the victim’s mouth and a scratch to the cheek.

Cherry finally left, although as she was doing so she allegedly threw a brick through the family’s window, shattering it and causing approximately $250 in damage.

Police say Cherry resisted arrest, pulling her arms apart during handcuffing attempts, pulling away from officers and refusing to sit in the back of the patrol car.

If convicted on all charges, Cherry faces a maximum of over 26 years in prison.

Cherry was also arrested last October after allegedly refusing to return $754 in materials from the Iowa City Public Library. Arraignment on a 3rd Degree Theft charge in that case is set for Monday.
