An Illinois man who allegedly hit several bars after a campaign event Saturday was arrested for his second OWI.

Police say that 33-year-old Matthew Ronzani of Zion hit a couple of different snowbanks in the parking lot of Casey’s on North Dubuque Street at approximately 2:23am Sunday. He then allegedly pulled out of the lot and turned the wrong way down Market Street.

Upon contact, Ronzani allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, smelled of ingested alcohol and had several bar wristbands on. He reportedly admitted to drinking at bars after a campaign event.

Ronzani showed multiple signs of impairment on SFST’s and failed a preliminary breath test. He also reportedly admitted to smoking medical marijuana previously in Illinois. A DRE determined additional impairment from marijuana.

Ronzani was charged with his second OWI, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years if convicted.
