A Cedar Rapids man who gave his name as William Tell to Iowa City police Tuesday didn’t have a bow and arrow on him; but he was allegedly found with a knife.

According to arrest reports, officers were called to the 3400 block of East Court Street just before 1pm Tuesday on report of intoxicated subjects urinating on the walls of the apartment complex. They came upon 19-year-old Dylan Vedepo of Skylark Lane Southeast, who allegedly stated that he wasn’t carrying any identification with his name on it.

Vedepo reportedly told officers that his name was William Tell with a false date of birth. When officers were unable to find that information in state records, they suggested that Vedepo provide his real name, but he allegedly refused.

After his arrest for public intoxication, Vedepo’s Iowa drivers license, social security card and court documents with his real name were located in the backpack he was wearing. A large fixed bladed knife in a sheath was also allegedly found in the backpack, and Vedepo reportedly stated that he does not have a concealed carry weapons permit.

A post arrest PBT showed that Vedepo had a blood-alcohol level of .169.

Vedepo was additionally charged with providing false identification information, and carrying weapons, specifically a knife over 8 inches long. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over two years in prison.
