IC Firefighters extinguish blaze at Town and Campus Apartments

The Iowa City Fire Department had to battle a Friday night fire at Town and Campus Apartments.

According to a release from the city, the ICFD responded to a structure fire at 1100 Arthur Street, with multiple 911 calls indicating there was smoke coming from one of the buildings. Upon arrival, firefighters reported a working structure fire in Apartment E4.

After entering the apartment, crews were able to get the fire under control within about ten minutes from the time they arrived on scene. Officials say there was one occupant who was able to exit prior to ICFD arrival.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, but total property damage is initially estimated to be in the $40,000 range.

The Iowa City Fire Department were assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Johnson County Joint Communications Center,  and Mid-American Gas Energy.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
