A University of Iowa student’s alleged drunken, expletive-laced rant at an Iowa City Police officer led to his arrest.

Arrest reports indicate that 21-year-old Miron Mahmudi approached a parked ICPD car in the 100 block of South Dubuque Street just before midnight last Saturday. The officer alleges that Mahmudi began yelling and saying “Eff You,” giving him the middle finger as he was sitting in the patrol car.

When the officer saw Mahmudi swaying, he attempted to make contact with him to check on his intoxication level. After the officer asked Mahmudi to come to him, Mahmudi instead reportedly ran northbound on foot through the Ped Mall, ignoring officer commands to stop.

After a brief chase, the officer was able to apprehend Mahmudi. He allegedly admitted to being intoxicated and submitted to a post-arrest PBT, showing a blood-alcohol level of .171.

Mahmudi was charged with public intoxication and interference with official acts. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 60 days in jail.
