Johnson County Board of Supervisors requests Governor Reynolds to issue shelter-in-place order

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors today, Monday, March 30, 2020, sent a letter to Governor Kim Reynolds requesting her to issue a shelter-in-place order for
the State of Iowa in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. At this time, 27 governors in the United States have issued shelter-in-place orders, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan.

In lieu of a statewide shelter-in-place, the Board of Supervisors also requested that Governor Reynolds delegate authority to counties to issue local shelter-in-place orders. Counties in Iowa currently do not have the authority to do so. If Governor Reynolds delegated authority to counties, it would allow those areas of the state experiencing higher levels of COVID-19 infection to control the spread of the virus locally.
