Spencer Lee awarded Don Hodge Trophy

University of Iowa junior wrestler Spencer Lee has been named the 2020 WIN Magazine/Culture House Dan Hodge Trophy.
The award is handed out annually to the nation’s most dominant wrestler. Lee earned 52 out of a possible 57 first-place votes by the judges.
Lee was 18-0 overall, won his first conference title, and was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Year. Only four of his 18 matches went the entire seven minutes. Lee was 5-0 in the month of January with five technical falls. He outscored those five opponents 84-1. Overall, he outscored his opponents 234-18 in his 125-pound weight class.
Lee breaks a three-year Penn State winning streak ; Bo Nickal won the trophy in 2019 and Zain Retherford won in 2017 and 2018. He’s the third Hawkeye to win it since its inception in 1995; Brent Metcalf won the trophy in 2008 and Mark Ironside in 1998.
The award was announced Monday by Win Magazine publisher, Bryan Van Kley.
