A North Liberty man faces over six years in prison if convicted on charges stemming from an incident in Iowa City Wednesday.

Police say that 43-year-old Cory McDaniels of Sugar Creek Lane was in the Waterfront Drive HyVee just after 7pm and told the victim, “Ill throw a bomb in this bitch.”  They made contact with McDaniels, who identified himself as Larry Harris and gave his real date of birth.

Once officers learned that his name did not return through dispatch, they asked McDaniels if he had an ID on him, but he said he didn’t.  A wallet was spotted in his back pocket, and officers asked for his ID, which properly identified him.

McDaniels allegedly smelled strongly of ingested alcohol, had bloodshot watery eyes , and slurred speech.  He reportedly admitted to drinking a “few beers,” as evidenced by the .253 blood-alcohol level measured on a PBT.

McDaniels was charged with Public Intoxication, a simple misdemeanor;  False Application for License or ID Card, a serious misdemeanor, and Threat with an Explosive or Incendiary device, a Class D Felony. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail, and was released Thursday morning.
