A Coralville man was taken into custody Sunday night on drug and other charges after allegedly threatening someone with a firearm.
According to police, officers were called to the 900 block of Boston Way regarding a subject who reportedly presented a firearm to the reporting party in a threatening manner.
The subject was identified as 25-year-old Willie McGee, also of Boston Way.
Police received a description of McGee, a juvenile who was with him, and the vehicle the two were sitting in. They found the two in the vehicle and allegedly observed the odor of raw marijuana, along with a glass mason jar filled with numerous clear baggies with a green leafy substance inside. When they investigated further, they determined that there was over 50 grams of the drug. Officers also found a digital scale and 5 MDMA tablets packaged individually for distribution.
McGee admitted to having a firearm but was vague about its whereabouts in the vehicle. Officers found the gun, a .40 caliber Glock 27, in the juvenile’s possession, loosely in his pants with a loaded magazine. McGee reportedly admitted that the firearm was his.
He was taken to the Johnson County Jail, where he was charged with Failure to Affix a Tax Stamp, two Controlled Substance violations, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Making a Pistol, Revolver or Ammunition available to a person under 21. If convicted on all counts, McGee could be sentenced to over 21 years in prison.
