Galesburg man accused of assaulting woman on interstate

A Galesburg man was taken into custody after an alleged altercation with a woman as they were traveling on I-80.
According to police, the incident involved 25-year-old Bradley Coleman of Holton Street and the reported victim, Tuesday before 8pm. The two were traveling eastbound at around the 243 mile marker and arguing inside their van when he allegedly pulled over, opened the back door and demanded the woman get out.
When she refused, Coleman is accused of punching her about the head and face, grabbing her by the neck, and swinging and attempting to poke at her with a screwdriver.
Police say the woman suffered abrasions on both sides of her neck and scratches on her face.
Coleman was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year. A no-contact order was requested between the involved parties.
