IC mayor suspends water rate increases, sidewalk cafe fees

Iowa City mayor Bruce Teague issued a proclatmaion this week that will suspend ater rate increases.
The 5% increase was due to take place July 1st, and now will be postponed until at least October 1st.
Teague also suspended sidewalk cafe fees, with the excaption of recording fees. All previously paid fees will be returned. Further, the proclamations suspends some limitaitons on the use of public sidewalks, allowing city staff to expand the use of outdoor seating to promote social distancing.
In the proclamation, Teague said, “Restrictions may be easing across the state, but COVID-19 will be in our communities for months to come. We must learn how to live our lives and support our neighbors, be it our next-door neighbors or our favorite local businesses, while also staying safe. Please, continue to make choices that will keep you and our neighbors safe.”
Teague encourages residents to continue wearing masks or face shields while out in public, and practice social distancing whenever possible.
