Coralville wasn’t the only eastern Iowa city to see unrest overnight.

Davenport mayor Mike Matson has asked for help from the Iowa National Guard after two people were killed during violent protests in that city Sunday night. It began around 10pm when people began gathering at North Park Mall. In the following hours police say they received over 45 calls for what were described as “serous” disturbances, including dozens of shots fired calls. Four people were shot, including two fatalities. According to KWQC-TV, the fatal shootings occurred at the West Kimberly Walmart and at the 1100 block of West 15th.

An officer was shot and injured after police were “ambushed” in the area of 15th Street and Myrtle around 3am.

Multiple suspects have been taken into custody.

Things were much more calm in Cedar Rapids, where dozens of residents protested on the steps of the police station Sunday evening. Some protesters climbed onto the roof, but there were no incidents of violence.
