Iowa City Police have arrested two individuals allegedly involved in a shots fired incident on the city’s west side.

According to an ICPD news release, officers responded to 2601 Westwinds Drive around 4pm on the report of shots fired in the parking lot. Witnesses on-scene reported hearing two shots and observing two individuals running southbound from the area. A black, box-shaped vehicle left northbound on Westwinds Drive after the shots.

Two individuals were observed running from the scene, one losing their shoes as they fled. Detectives located the two, finding the man losing his shoes near the intersection of Walden Road and Jensen Street. He was identified as 18-year-old Mustafa Aliomer of the 600 block of Westwinds Drive. As they patted him down, officers immediately smelled a strong scent of raw marijuana and a large bulge near the waistline of his underwear. Upon removing the bulge, it was found to be a baggie containing about one ounce of marijuana. A scale commonly used to weigh marijuana, a THC cartridge and over $100 in cash. Aliomer reportedly admitted to purchasing the marijuana earlier in the day for $180.

The other man was located near College Drive and Walden Road. He was identified as 18-year-old Marwan Abdullmaged. When asked if he had a firearm on his person, he allegedly said he did. Officers located a fully loaded 9mm pistol in his right pants pocket.

Aliomer was charged with a controlled substance violation, a Class D Felony. Abdullmaged was charged with carrying weapons and a controlled substance violation and could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison if convicted on both counts.

The case remains under investigation.
