An Iowa City man was taken into custody after allegedly violating a no-contact order and making a unique request of his ex-girlfriend.

The incident allegedly occurred at approximately 11:45pm Sunday, when 33-year-old Scott Smart of Triple Crown Lane went to a residence on Appanoose Court to confront his ex-girlfriend, in violation of a no-contact order issued by Judge Jason Burns last December.

Smart was reportedly intoxicated and emotionally unstable, as evidenced by his alleged demand that his ex and her current boyfriend kill him. The woman advised that she felt alarmed and threatened by Smart’s actions.

When police caught up with Smart, he was still allegedly very intoxicated and repeatedly admitted to going to the woman’s residence.

He was taken to the Johnson County Jail and charged with two counts of 3rd degree Harassment and violation of the no-contact order. If convicted, Smart could be sentenced to up to sixty days in jail. Another no-contact order was requested.
