It’s three police chases in three months for an Iowa City man, with the latest coming early Sunday morning.

According to arrest records, Iowa City Police noticed 36-year-old Solomon Xayabath leaving the Bon Aire manufactured housing community just before 3am. They recognized Xayabath’s car, and knew he had a warrant for his arrest.

The officer tried to initiate a traffic stop near the corner of Highway 6 and Scott Boulevard, but Xayabath allegedly ignored the lights and siren and continued north on Scott. Xayabath continued until he reached his residence on Century Street in the Modern Manor manufactured housing community. He was arrested in his driveway for Eluding and on the outstanding warrant. A glass pipe with white residue was found in his pocket, and he now faces an additional charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

If convicted on both charges, Xayabath faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.

Xayabath was wanted on a warrant for skipping a hearing on a previous felony Eluding charge. Last May he refused to stop for Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies near Scott Boulevard and Wintergreen Drive, leading them on a pair of chases that included traveling 75 in a 45 mile-per-hour zone and 65 in a 35 mile-per-hour zone.

In June, Xayabath was seen by police driving without a seatbelt near the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Muscatine Avenue. Xayabath failed to yield to lights and sirens from the pursuing squad car, reportedly reaching speeds of 80 miles an hour in a 55 mile hour zone. Stop sticks were deployed, and Xayabath allegedly tried to flee on foot before he was caught a short time later.
