An Iowa City man who has been living with a woman for five years and shares six children with her has been charged with his second domestic abuse count involving her.

Arrest reports indicate that officers were dispatched to the residence on Bittersweet Court Thursday at 11:20am on reports of a physical domestic incident. The woman told dispatch that she had been hit and furniture had been thrown. As they were speaking with her in the doorway of the residence, 22-year-old Aurther Brown burst through the doorway and into the victim in full view of the officer. He then reportedly put his hands behind his back to be handcuffed without prompting.

An investigation into the incident determined that the initial verbal argument turned physical. The woman had a scalp injury as a result of having several of her hair braids pulled out. Police also reportedly noticed broken glass on the floor.

A check of arrest records indicates that Brown has a prior domestic conviction with the same woman back in November of 2017. He’s been charged with his second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a maximum sentence of two years in prison.

A no-contact order was requested between the couple.
