An Iowa City restaurant owner was taken into custody Saturday night after an alleged assault on a former employee at his establishment.
Police say the incident occurred at Sam’s Pizza at approximately 9:30pm. The owner, 51-year-old Terence French, is reportedly seen on video in the restaurant initiating a physical fight with a former employee. French took the victim to the ground, pinned him there, and struck the man in the face several times before letting him off the ground.
The man suffered visible injuries to his face, notably abrasions and reddening around both his eyes, according to the police report.
French was taken into custody and charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. He could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted
