An Iowa City man was taken into custody after allegedly hitting parked vehicles and driving under the influence.

Police were called Thursday just before 10:15pm to the area of Riverside Drive for a reckless driver who was driving at high speeds and hitting other vehicles. Deputies saw the man, identified as 18-year-old Declan Fondren of Gryn Court, leaving Lake Ridge and stopped him. He performed poorly on SFSTs, and a PBT showed a blood-alcohol level of .238 percent. He refused a Datamaster test, and allegedly made several statements about smoking weed and being intoxicated.

Deputies went back and confirmed that Fondren hit two unoccupied vehicles on Moss Wood Road and failed to stop and give his information to the owners of the damaged vehicles.

Fondren was taken into custody and charged with his first OWI and striking unattended vehicles. If convicted on the OWI he could be sentenced to up to a year in jail.
