Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds says she could lift the order closing all bars, taverns, wineries, breweries, distilleries, and nightclubs in six counties as early as the upcoming week.

On August 27th Reynolds ordered all such establishments closed in Johnson, Linn, Black Hawk, Dallas, Polk and Story counties until at least September 20th, citing high COVID-19 rates in those counties. But in a Friday radio interview, she indicated she could lift the order as soon as the coming week if data shows improving COVID-19 rates in those six counties. Reynolds also touted $10,000 state grants to such businesses to help them through the closure, which she said she was “hoping” could be lifted next week.

Under the current order, the affected businesses in the six counties can still serve alcohol off-premises. Restaurants in those counties that serve alcohol may stay open, but must stop serving alcohol after 10pm.
