Olds Iowa man charged with stealing supplies and scrap from electric contractor

An Olds Iowa man was taken into custody early Tuesday morning after being found stealing scrap and other items from an Iowa City electrical contractor.

Police report that 42-year-old Aaron Huffman was called in for stealing from Merit Electric on Highland Court a little after 4am. The reporting party allegedly saw Huffman pulling items through a fence and placing them into his vehicle. Huffman was found in a vehicle that matched the reporting party’s description, blocks away from the business, and he reportedly had supplies from Merit Electric in plain view in his pickup.

Huffman claimed to be scrapping from dumpsters, allegedly admitted he took items from Merit, said his intention was to scrap the items for money, and admitted he probably shouldn’t have taken the items.

Management from Merit Electric arrived on scene and estimated the items taken by Huffman cost about $450.00.

Huffman was charged with 4th degree Theft, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year.
